Our Swirl Cup is a cup that is designed to tell the story of traditional ceramic craftsmanship. Made in coil technique, a technique as old as pottery itself, the cup is later slipcast, making this cup into a functional art piece in your home.

Traditionally the coiled layers are merged upon finishing the piece, however, in Swirl Cup these layers are kept, to shine a light on the process of building a vessel, layer upon layer. Thus we hope, as you engage with this vessel, you can picture the process of rolling each coil by hand and building of each layer.

As times are changing, we hope that with this piece you will feel connected to craftsmanship behind each object we live among.

  • Only twelve Swirly Cups in Stoneware have been produced, making this a very limited production.

The cup is produced in a traditional slipcasting technique, meaning, the original shape is molded by hand in clay, thus avoiding any plastic waste.  The shape is later cast in plaster, forming a one part mold to avoid seamlines. This cast in turn can produce a maxiumum amount of 90 copies (average life span of a plaster cast) and due to the nature of creating the original in clay, the process results in a very small and slow production. This way we also avoid any unnecessary production waste, which there is none for this design, as all components can be reused in ceramic process again.

Due to the nature of the production of this design, the production is very limited and cannot be multiplied.
